Is the Inventory app free in Odoo 17?
Yes. Inventory is LGPL-licensed and part of Odoo Community, including multiple warehouses, lots and serial numbers, reordering rules and automated valuation. The Barcode app, which drives handheld scanning of receipts, pickings and counts, is Enterprise-licensed; a plain USB scanner typing into the normal screens works without it.
What is the difference between standard price, AVCO and FIFO?
They are the three costing methods set on the product category. Standard price values stock at a figure you maintain yourself. AVCO recalculates a weighted average cost on every receipt. FIFO consumes the oldest layers first, so the cost of a delivery reflects what that particular stock was bought for. Only AVCO and FIFO update the cost automatically.
How do reordering rules work?
A reordering rule holds a minimum and a maximum quantity for one product in one location. When the forecast falls below the minimum, the scheduler proposes a purchase order, a manufacturing order or an internal transfer - whichever the product's route calls for - large enough to reach the maximum. The scheduler runs on a schedule and can also be launched by hand.
Can Odoo 17 run more than one warehouse?
Yes, and each warehouse brings its own locations, operation types and document sequences. Stock moves between them as internal transfers, resupply routes let one warehouse restock from another, and reordering rules can be set per site. Reports can then be read warehouse by warehouse or consolidated for the whole company.
What happens if stock goes negative?
For ordinary storable products Odoo allows it and shows the negative quantity rather than blocking the operation; products tracked by serial number are stricter. A negative figure almost always means a receipt was never validated or a count is out of date, and since valuation follows the moves, it distorts the stock value until the missing operation is entered.
