Field Service in Odoo 17 turns an on-site job into a task: scheduled against a customer address and a time window, assigned to a technician who works it from the mobile app, logging hours and parts used, and closed with a customer signature and an invoice built from what was recorded. Field Service is an Enterprise app, built on Project and Timesheets.

Questions we get asked
Is Field Service available in Odoo 17 Community?
No. Field Service is Enterprise-licensed and depends on Timesheets and the Enterprise planning views, so it needs an Odoo Enterprise subscription or a paid Odoo Online plan. Community users often approximate it with Project tasks and the Calendar app, but without the mobile worksheet, the on-site signature or time-and-material invoicing.
Can a field service task be created from a sales order?
Yes. A service product can be configured to create a field service task when its order is confirmed, so selling an installation or a maintenance visit schedules the job automatically with the customer and the order already linked. Tasks can also be raised from a helpdesk ticket when a support call has to become a site visit.
Do technicians need a paid Odoo user account?
Yes. A technician who opens tasks, logs time and closes jobs signs in as an internal user, so each one consumes a licence. Customers are different: they are portal users, which are free and unlimited, and can follow their job, read the report and sign it without any licence being used.
How is a field service job invoiced?
From what was recorded on it. Hours logged on the task and products added as used become invoiceable lines on the linked sales order, priced by the service and product settings. A fixed-price job is billed instead from the service product's price, with the logged hours kept for costing and profitability rather than billing.
Does the mobile app work without a signal?
Not reliably. The field service screens are the web client running inside Odoo's mobile app, and they need a connection to load a task and save a change. Crews working in basements or remote sites usually open their jobs while still in coverage and finish the closing details once the connection comes back.
