As of 22 September 2026, Odoo 20 has not been released. Odoo has said it will unveil Odoo 20 in the opening keynote of Odoo Experience in Brussels on 24 September 2026 and release it during the event. Apart from a few session and webinar descriptions on odoo.com, any "Odoo 20 feature list" you read before that keynote is speculation.
We implement and upgrade Odoo for a living, so we get the "should we wait for 20?" question every September. This post keeps two lists apart: what Odoo itself has published, and what we expect because Odoo has done the same thing every year. Where we are guessing, we say so.
What Odoo has officially announced about Odoo 20
Everything in this section comes from pages on odoo.com. Nothing here is a confirmed feature list; it is what Odoo has chosen to say ahead of the launch.

The framework abstract matters most if you run custom modules. "A redesigned and unified security model" means access rules written for Odoo 19 are likely to need rework. Until the code is out, we can't say how much.
The POS webinar tells you what Odoo plans to demonstrate. It doesn't say which plan or edition each item needs. We will check that against the released code before anything goes into our guide.
What to expect from Odoo's release pattern
These points are expectations, not announcements. They follow from what Odoo has done in previous years and from its published policies.
- One major version a year. Odoo's release notes page lists Odoo 14 (October 2020), 15 (October 2021), 16 (October 2022), 17 (November 2023), 18 (October 2024) and 19 (September 2025). Odoo 20 in September 2026 fits that rhythm.
- The Online-only versions are the best preview. Between majors, Odoo ships intermediate versions on Odoo Online only: 19.1 (January 2026), 19.2 (March), 19.3 (May) and 19.4 (July). In the past, what shipped in those versions ended up in the next major. So the 19.x release notes are the most reliable guide to Odoo 20 you can read today.
- Some 19.4 changes point the same way as the framework talk. The 19.4 release notes describe simplified access rights: record rules are removed and a domain is set directly on the access right. They also add a connection to your database over MCP (model context protocol) and automatic selection of the AI model for each task. We expect these to be part of Odoo 20, but that is our reading, not Odoo's statement.
- More AI. Odoo 19 introduced the AI app (Enterprise,
OEEL-1licence), with AI agents, AI fields, AI in server actions and answers drawn from your own documents. The 19.0 source has 15ai*modules. The Odoo 20 AI talks at Odoo Experience suggest the keynote will spend time on AI. What exactly ships is unknown. - The support window moves. Odoo supports each major version for three years. Its published table gives September 2026 as the planned end of standard support for Odoo 17. If the pattern holds, 18, 19 and 20 will be the three majors in standard support once Odoo 20 is out. Why third-party Odoo 20 feature lists are speculation
Every year, articles titled "Odoo 20 new features" appear weeks before the keynote. Some are written from the rolling-release test instance, some from the Online release notes, and some are simply guesses. Even the ones based on a real test instance show a moving target. A rolling-release build before the launch is not the final 20.0 branch, and features get renamed, moved between editions or held back.
If a list of Odoo 20 features doesn't link to an odoo.com page, treat it as a rumour.
We are deliberately not repeating any of those lists here. If you are making a budget or timing decision, base it on the official release notes and on a test upgrade of your own database, not on a blog post, ours included.
How to read the Odoo 20 release notes for your business
When the release notes go live, most people scroll the headline features. The lines that decide your upgrade effort are usually further down. We read them in this order:
- Your apps only. Filter to the apps you actually run. A new Rental feature doesn't matter if you don't use Rental.
- Your localisation. For Indian companies, look at the India section: GST returns, e-invoicing and e-way bill, and Indian payroll. Statutory changes can decide your timing more than any feature.
- Changed or removed behaviour. Renamed menus, merged models and workflow changes are what break training material and customisations.
- Edition and plan. Check whether a feature is Community or Enterprise, and whether your Odoo Online plan includes it. Odoo's pricing page is the reference.
- Framework notes, if you have custom code. Pass these straight to whoever maintains your modules.
What to do before Odoo 20 arrives
You don't need the feature list to start preparing. Listing your custom modules, cleaning your data and setting up a proper test database all pay off whatever Odoo announces on Thursday. Yes. Odoo runs a "Test-drive Odoo 20" beta page with a rolling-release test instance. Odoo states it is meant for testing only and that databases created there are deleted every week. Never put real company data in it. Treat it as a moving preview, because behaviour can change before and after the official 20.0 release.
Should I wait for Odoo 20 before implementing Odoo?
Usually not. A new implementation started on Odoo 19 today can be upgraded to Odoo 20 later through Odoo's upgrade service, and Enterprise subscriptions include upgrades of standard apps. Waiting delays the benefits and gives you a version with little field experience. The exception is a project that would go live several months from now anyway. Then starting on 20 after its release can make sense.
